So I stayed in Cairns after missing the flight to Uluru. I did a dive trip and I took some nice photos under water..

I'd like to say thank you to everyone who took the time to read this weblog .. Sorry for the few updates at the end, but when you're traveling the last thing you want to do is spend a long time behind the computer ..

I will put some more Aussie photos online in the near future .. I'll put a new log in here whenever I updated the photo gallery ..


Other than that, this weblog will probably be quite boring .. until I start traveling again, offcourse :) ..

Since I was stuck in Cairns, I decided to trow another AU$350 at it and do a reef trip. I mean, when you're in Cairns, you SHOULD go doving :) Food, scuba gear (up to 7 dives) and accomodation were included; 2 days & 1 night on a boat.

I went with the company Deep Sea Divers Den.. We went to Norman Reef.. The first two dives were from the daytrip boat ReefQuest and the others, plus the overnight stay was on the OceanQuest..

Bleeeeuuuhhhhhgggg!!! :) .. So regulator recovery training was useful after all ;)

As a bandage on the wound (dutch saying) because of my airplane-missing affair, I went out and bought me an iPod!!!! The MP3 player I had only had 96MB memory, the iPod has 15GB ..

I've always waneted one, but in the Netherlands they are VERY expensive .. I'd pay EUR350 for it, and overhere AUD370 .. big difference ..

Ok, everything just went too well during my stay here, something HAD to go wrong .. Today it did ..

sleepy taxi driver

I waited at the hostel's reception for the bus driver to pick me up .. But he was not there .. Time passed by and I got very nervous .. Luckily at some point someone checked on him, HE WAS STILL ASLEEP .. To keep it short, I arrived at the airport and saw the word 'boarding' blinking in front of my flight .. But the checkin desk wouldn't let me go to the plane, stating it would be closed already ..

I thionk I should have started to make troubles and stuff, but I guess I'm not assertive enough .. Next time I will ..

I'll try to claim it from my travel insurance company .. But I'm afraid I'm out of luck on this one .. The damage:
1 ticket Cairns - Ayers Rock : AU$300
1 tour Ayers Rock - Alice Springs : AU$410
1 change of flight from Alice Springs > Sydney to Cairns > Sydney: $AUD 145
1 missing out on seeing Uluru (Ayers Rock) : Priceless!!

bit of good news

I read an email from UNSW, which stated I passed my subjects (except 1, which I dropped) .. That means that at least my study overhere was successful..

I got an HD (High Distinction) for my photography class!! Getting an HD is something very special here, just ask an Aussie student .. The tutor told me I should continue doing photography and I certainly will ..

Ok .. changed my flight and I will go from Cairns back to Sydney at the 26th .. I will stay in Cairns and try some dives in the reef here, since I 1) got addicted to it, 2) It will be a long time before I can ever dive the reef again ..

sux man. I almost missed my flight from Vienna to Dortmund too (boarding was flashing) but somehow I got lucky (and got a nice window seat).
